Kapa Haka is offered to all students at WSS. We have two talented Kaiako; Whaea Merihera Wills and Whaea Connie Pinker, who come in and teach Kapa Haka for a few hours each week. The children learn waiata, poi, haka and te Reo Maori. All children in Opawa team participate in Kapa Haka in Term One. and all children in the Wairau team particpate in term 2. Term 3 and 4 focuses on the performance kapa haka group while the rest of the children particpate in Te reo and tikanga Māori lesson in their teams.
In November each year, Kapa Haka groups from around the district perform over a 2 day event called Taiapenga. It is a wonderful way to celebrate our learning and a chance for our performance Kapa Haka group to shine on stage!
