SCHOOL CLOSED on Thurs 16 March
Fri Mar 10 01:50pmDear Parents/Caregivers,
The NZEI has advised the Whitney Street School Board that its member teachers at our school will be taking strike action on 16 March 2023.
The Board has carefully considered the availability of non-union teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide safe normal instruction during the strike so the school will officially be closed for instruction on Thursday 16 March.
We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike and thank you for your understanding and support.
Yours sincerely,
Kate McEntee
Board Presiding Member (on behalf of the Whitney Street School Board)

Ballet performance by the Royal N.Z. Ballet on Friday 3 March at the ASB theatre. And it is free!
Sun Feb 26 04:10pmDear Parents/Whānau,
We have been given the opportunity to enjoy an informal ballet performance by the Royal N.Z. Ballet on Friday 3 March at the ASB theatre. And it is free!
The performance is a combination of dance, humour and time for the children to interact with the dancers with questions and comments. It is a wonderful opportunity for our children to see ballet in a less formal situation, yet with all the ceremony that a trip to the theatre entails.
The children will need their hat, walking shoes, and a coat if it is inclement weather.
We require 1 adult helper per class to assist with walking safely and to supervise the children at the theatre. Please chat to your child’s teacher if you can help.
We will leave school at 12.30pm, having eaten our lunch at midday. The performance starts at 1.30pm and lasts for one hour. We will speed walk back to school in time for the 3pm hometime.
Many thanks,
Whitney Street School Teachers
Mufti Day Tomorrow (Fri)
Thu Feb 23 04:45pmReminder that we have an optional Mufti Day tomorrow where the children bring a gold coin to support those impacted by the cyclone and flooding.

Please Check your Child’s Bag for an Important School Notice
Thu Feb 23 03:10pmHello everyone,
We have given each child a note to bring home today regarding the school’s early finish on Monday. Many of you have completed our online form indicating what your child/ren will be doing on Monday afternoon (thank you), however many of you haven’t so we have sent a hardcopy notice home today in case that is easier.
Please make sure you respond asap and by Monday morning at the absolute latest, either by following the link or sending back the hardcopy, so we don’t have to call families.
Thanks very much,
Cheryl
If you have not done so already: Please let us know your plans for an early finish on Monday 27 Feb
Tue Feb 21 02:46pmOn Monday 27 February, the teachers will be attending union meetings in the afternoon. Whitney Street School will be open as usual with a skeleton staff so we will only be able to provide some supervision activities. We would therefore appreciate it if you are able to collect your child at lunchtime (1pm) on this day. We understand that this may not be possible for some of you.
Please complete the form once for every child in your whānau by Thursday 23 February. You will be given the option of submitting another response (for another child) upon completion of this.
Thank you!

Community Kai Picnic – it’s on tonight!
Wed Feb 15 10:07amKia ora everyone,
We have made the decision to go ahead with our Community Kai Picnic as planned, as the weather is looking ok. Please bring a rug or something waterproof to sit on in case the ground is still wet underfoot. We also have tables and covered decks to sit on if needed, and the hall is available if necessary.
We’d love to see as many of you there as possible as it’s a nice way to meet our teachers and other families, and hear a little bit about what is happening at school this year.
Community Kai starts at 5pm in the school grounds and goes until 6:30pm at the latest. We will have a BBQ with sausages and you are welcome to bring your own picnic food to enjoy with your family. Fingers crossed for a lovely evening together.
